New development in Winnipeg with Dustin Byfuglien
Dustin Byfuglien completely blindside the Winnipeg Jets when he announced he was stepping away from the game to concentrate on his health and today some news dropped on the next steps for both sides.
Byfuglien's contract carries an AAV of $7.6 million, and if/when terminated Byfuglien will be an unrestricted free agent and free to sign with any club.
The Jets have made it be known they are not interested in using the money to fill with rental players, as the price is always too high. Look for the team to make a 'hockey trade' in the coming few weeks.
The most important part of this is Dustin Byfuglien's health, that's certainly first and foremost. However, secondly, the Jets now have an idea of their cap situation, where they can now wipe 'Buffs' dollars off of their salary cap and make some bold moves come the trade deadline.Hearing #nhljets and Dustin Byfuglien are working toward a mutual contract termination over the next several days, which would end his suspension (and grievance) - and finally give Winnipeg the salary cap clarity needed ahead of #TradeCentre.— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) February 3, 2020
