Report: Montreal Canadiens get horrible news regarding Shea Weber
According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the Montreal Canadiens have learned that defenseman Shea Weber won't be able to avoid further surgery on his already repaired foot, and not only is this season over, so could his career.
Weber was acquired in the famous one for one deal from the Nashville Predators for PK Subban, and if Weber is forced to retire, there will be salary cap implications for the Preds, much like what happened with Vancouver when Roberto Luongo retired.Sources say Shea Weber injury has his season likely over and his future in question. Told injury is related to foot that was surgically repaired in 2018. While waiting for swelling to alleviate and further confirmation, surgery seemed unavoidable going into this week. @nhl #weber— Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper) February 12, 2020
Weber is under contract for 6 more seasons at an AAV. The team has announced they will address the news before the end of the week.
UPDATE: Shea Weber met with a specialist in Wisconsin on Wednesday and has been ruled out for 6-8 weeks. Nick Kypreos' report of career ending, at this point, was incorrect.
