NHL Playoffs could be a 'March Madness' tournament style format
The NHL continues to ponder all options for their playoff format, as the Coronavirus has halted play. Their senior leadership team is currently constructing many different formats, all of which are dependent on how much time the league will have to conclude their playoffs. One option being discussed is a tournament style single elimination format.
The 'March Madness' type of tournament would be a massive change to a league who loves their traditions and history. Some options are single elimination games, or best 2 of 3 for each round, which would include 24 teams, 12 from the east, 12 from the west.
At this point any and everything is an option. Once the league has a better idea of how long the shut down will be, they will be able to have some more concrete information for all the fans and teams waiting patiently.
Let's hope we get back to puck drop, sooner than later.
