Montreal Canadiens sign star KHL goaltender

Vasili Demchenko, get used to the name Habs fans after the Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday the team has signed the former KHL star to a contract.

The 26-year-old was highly coveted from many teams in the NHL, however, chose the Canadiens because he felt Carey Price could be the perfect mentor for getting welcomed into the NHL. Demchenko has posted stellar numbers in Russia, with a career .925 save percentage over 212 career games, including 14 shutouts.

The deal with Montreal is worth $700,000 USD, and carried a signing bonus of $92,500. The six-foot-two, 165 pound goaltender is expected to become Montreal's back up goaltender for the 2020-2021 season.

And somewhere in Colorado, the Carey Price to Avalanche rumors have surfaced again.
