Trade Bait: 3 Evgeni Malking trades to consider
While we wait for the hammer to drop on this NHL season, we've been rubbishing our way through some potential trades over the course of the last few weeks. McDavid, Eichel, Doughty, Tavares, and today's flavor of the day is Pittsburgh Penguin, Evgeni Malkin.
Malkin has been productive as hell in 2019-2020, currently sitting with 74 points in 55 games. If the Pens were to ever deal him, it would be an ask directly from the player, as Jim Rutherford has mentioned as long as he has Malkin and Sid in the fold, he believes his team can win the cup.
If the Pens were to trade Evgeni Malkin, 3 deals to consider would be:
To the San Jose Sharks for Brent Burns and Kevin LeBanc. Hard to say exactly where Malkin would ever agree to be dealt, but San Jose would probably be near the top of his list. Somewhere where you can play hockey and also still be able to go out and get groceries without too much commotion. Malkin is two years younger than Burns, however, Burns is still in great shape and would bring an element to the Pens that would be interesting to say the least. This one isn't likely.
To the Florida Panthers for Keith Yandle, Brett Connolly and a 1st round pick. Florida would be near the top of Malkin's list as the Russians have forever been tied to the sunshine state. With 'Goalie Bob' and Evgeni Dadonov in Florida for the foreseeable future, Malkin could be enticed to follow the sun. Pittsburgh would never get the proper return for Malkin who should be a Top-100 NHLer of all-time, however, this haul would provide them with a little bit of everything. Aaron Ekblad instead of Yandle may be worth considering as well.
To the Anaheim Ducks for Jakob Silverberg, Cam Fowler and a 1st round pick. The Ducks are desperate for attention and adding Malkin to Getzlaf isn't the worst idea. 'Geno' would be likely to approve a deal to Cali, and the Pens would make off with a nice haul for the Russia star. Silverberg would fit nice with Sid and Fowler has plenty of game. Interesting, to say the least.
Evgeni Malkin is likely going to finish his career in Pittsburgh. Although last off season there was a slew of reports coming out of Russia that he was done with the Penguins. We'll wait and see this year if the same trend continues and if Malkin does want out, throw those 3 teams in the mix.
Stay safe, stay home. Thanks for dropping by.
