Yikes: Some GMs are pissed off at the NHL
The next few weeks for the NHL are going to be very interesting. With the potential announcement of the league coming back in less than 2 weeks, the league continues to knock things off its list. Next up, the draft. And if it was solely up to the NHL, it would be going through virtually in June, but some GM's across the league aren't having it and here's why.
Questions have been raised regarding the follow dynamics, as per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet:
1. What happens with the conditional picks that are based on where teams finish in the playoffs?
2. How do you deal with players who would be able to start next season elsewhere if the 2020/21 NHL start is delayed until later in the year? That could be CHL/NCAA/Europe - would these players be removed from their teams and be given the opportunity to join NHL camps?
3. Teams who know they are going to the playoffs will be unable to trade players they want to use for draft picks
4. Expanding the playoffs, what if one team actually could win the lottery and the Stanley Cup?
Friedman also indicated the neutral-sites ideal looks like it's not happening. Instead, it's going to be all teams from each division will all go to one city and play triple headers each day. This would be awesome, and again, no fans will be in the stands. Who cares?
Although it's been tough without hockey, we could be in line for the best stretch of hockey we have ever seen. Will it be worth the wait?
