Done Deal: Montreal signs top prospect Alexander Romanov
The Montreal Canadiens have improved their roster by signing Russian superstar Alexander Romanov to an entry-level contract. The signing is unique though, as due to the pandemic pause, the contract hasn't actually been signed, it's just been agreed upon and the start date of the contract will be determined once the pause is lifted.
Romanov was selected by the Habs, 38th overall in the 2018 draft. Look for the Russia defenseman to jump into the Canadiens top-4 as soon as he suits up. Huge day to be a Habs fan.

Romanov, 20, amassed seven assists and a +21 in 43 games for CSKA Moscow in the KHL. On an international stage, Romanov has been a stand out, including the latest World Junior Championship where Romanov was named the best defenseman of the tournament after leading all the players in assists and plus/minus.— Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) May 8, 2020
Montreal's approach in agreeing to terms with Alexander Romanov on his ELC is the same previously taken by Florida (Grigory Denisenko) Chicago (Ian Mitchell) and St. Louis (Scott Perunovich).
**Teams are waiting to see if 2019-20 restarts and if NHL allows current-year deals.

Alexander Romanov with an excellent drive and pass, Slepyshev really should have scored on that pass. #Habs pic.twitter.com/RBkHQWguhF— Patrik Bexell (@Zeb_Habs) October 21, 2019
