Maple Leafs media called out over releasing medical information
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been all over the air waves lately when the news dropped from so-called journalist, Steve Simmons, after he reported in the Toronto Sun that Auston Matthews tested positive for Covid-19. While it's common for a player's injury to be reported on during the season (with permission), many people felt this report on Matthews was unethical and his records should be protected by law. Turns out, the report sparked some outrage from former Leaf, Mark Fraser.
Here's what Fraser had to say once the Maple Leafs released their statement:
Regardless, the Leafs have made a statement regarding medical records moving forward, in hopes of keeping everything confidential.

Who's to blame here? The media for being sneaky and getting their hands on the medical records, or perhaps there are more issues going on with MLSE employees releasing the information for who knows what. Imaging benefiting off of someone's medical records, give your head a shake.Apparently there’s no such thing as keeping your medical history private when you’re a @MapleLeafs. 1 day after having reconstructive surgery to repair my shattered skull from a gm 4 injury, my CT Scan ended up all over the media... I was given no choice. Strangers mad it for me. https://t.co/iHhf7WfwXA— Mark Fraser (@MarkFraser02) June 20, 2020
