Rumor: City of Edmonton Will Host 2020 NHL Playoffs

Of the 10 markets listed as potential hub cities for the 2020 NHL Playoffs, 3 of them are in Canada. Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton were likely to be removed from this list as the federal government established a 14 day mandatory quarantine for individuals arriving in Canada. However, exceptions have been made for a 'cohort quarantine'.

An anonymous federal official has stated that an Order-In-Council is awaiting the Governor General's signature. This will allow NHL teams to enter Canada and bypass the 14 day mandatory quarantine period.

The NHL presented a plan that met the Canadian public health requirements. Players and staff will be required to be separated from the general public at all times. Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Marco Mendicino released a statement outlining national interest to have a Canadian hub city for the 2020 NHL Playoffs.

NHL Trade Rumors previously revealed that the City of Toronto is the likely front-runner, but more developments have been made. The city of Edmonton has presented another lifestyle plan to the NHL, which includes restaurants, movie theatres, and a golf course. Who can compete with that?
