Rumor: Ottawa willing to make huge trade at the draft

Leave it to the NHL to hold a lottery, and nobody wins. The 2020 NHL Draft Lottery was as confusing as ever and it turns out we still don't know who will draft first overall. One thing we do know, Ottawa didn't end up with the top pick, but that may change before the draft takes place in a couple months.

The Senators ended up with the 3rd and 5th pick in the draft, and some close to owner, Eugene Melynk feel like that's not good enough. As it stands right now, here's a mock draft from TSN's Craig Button:

The Senators prepared for this, they knew there was a chance they wouldn't land on #1, but that could very easily change as a Senators employee told NHLTR late last night:
We would be dumb not to make an offer for #1, when we're sitting in such a good position with two in the top-5. Would that mean we would have to include one more piece, likely, so we will cross that bridge once we find out who we have to call.

It's obvious that disappointment is running wild in Ottawa.  Should it be though? They have three 1st-round-picks and four 2nd-round-picks this year. Most teams would be very happy with two picks in the top-5.

For now, that's where Ottawa sits, and we'll see how this plays out. Imagine this worst case scenario, the Maple Leafs get put out by Columbus and win the lottery. Sens fans would find a way to blame Eugene Melnyk.
