Evander Kane Criticizes NHL's Lack Of Support For Black Players
As professional sports begin their restart, there have been a number of athletes who have demonstrated their solidarity with black teammates and the overarching social climate. Although Evander Kane will not be participating in the NHL restart, he is still vocal on existing issues.
Kane has stated that the newly formed Hockey Diversity Alliance have found little common ground with the NHL.
"You can put 'Black Lives Matter' all over the rink, shout 'Black Lives Matter' from the mountains. No matter what they do or say, it's all going to fall on deaf ears with me and every other person in the HDA because the league has made no effort to support its own Black players."Kane has also stated that many zoom calls have been hostile at times. They're focusing on racism at this time, while the league is implementing a #WeSkateFor initiative that wraps mental health, LGTBQ, women's rights, etc... into one, whereas the HDA would like to address these issues seperately.
