Rumor: Artem Anisimov done in Ottawa
The Ottawa Senators have roughly 1000 draft picks over the course of the next two years, but it's their current roster that's today's focus. Veteran Artem Anisimov managed 15 goals in 49 games last season, however, according to a source close to Ottawa's operations, the big Russian center is not in the mix for next season.
At 32-years-old and making $4.55 million, the Senators are interested in moving the last year of his contract to save some money for the future. The Sens actually have three 1st-round-picks and four second-rounders this upcoming draft and it's no secret they will be trying to do anything they can to trade for the #1 overall pick. Anisimov could potentially be included in the deal, however not likely, considering his salary. If the Sens want to eat 50% of it, a deal could easily happen.
One guy who's out of place is Anisimov in Ottawa. Big body who can still be productive, a playoff team could use his presence down the middle. If the Sens go hard after #1 overall, perhaps he's included as a throw in at less money on the dollar. What's more likely is they use him to save some money and buyout what's left on his deal.
Once the #1 overall draft position is awarded, keep an eye on the Senators, who sit at #3 and #5 picks. They have their eyes set on Alexis Lafreniere and are willing to move anyone out to make it happen.
