Rumor: Flyers to make interesting trade offer to the Flames
The Calgary Flames find themselves up against the Winnipeg Jets in what could be the biggest series this current core of Flames' players has ever played. It's been no secret the Flames are ready to blow their team up if the club can't find postseason success. And the media isn't the only one focused on the Flames, according to one source, the Flyers could be circling the smoke clouds.
When asked about reports of Philly being in on some of Calgary's top players, one Western Conference executive had this to say to NHLTR:
The Flyers want more firepower and if the Flames get bounced again, 'Johnny Hockey' will be front and center. The Flames are Matthew Tkachuk's team now, so Gaudreau would all but be gone. If you are the Flames you want Scott Laughton, a 1st and a top prospect. If you're the Flyers you want to throw in JVR instead. The Flyers likely offer will be JVR, a defensive prospect who's ready for the NHL and a top pick. It's not likely the Flames take back money on this deal though, so salary retention could be in place here.
The Flames enjoyed a battle of Alberta for their first game in 4 months and let's just say the team looked out of place. Trading a young core piece who can get you 90 points and is signed for 2 more years relatively cheap, may not be the answer. Let's leave it up to the Flames to address the off season questions.
