Rumor: Marc-Andre Fleury Will Not Be Starting Goaltender
Marc-Andre Fleury is arguably the greatest goaltender of his generation. He has 3 Stanley Cup Rings and has played in the Stanley Cup Final on 5 occasions. He may now be forced to watch his team play for the Stanley Cup from the players' bench.
Robin Lehner was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights at the trade deadline in February. His season record is 19-10-5 with a SV percentage of 0.920 and a GAA of 2.89. He has had a remarkable season and one could argue that he is deserving of the starting position.
However, Fleury brought the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season. He is 27-16-5 on the season with a 0.905 SV percentage and a GAA of 2.77. Fleury has had a decent season despite grieving the loss of his father. He has overcome adversity on many occasions, and perhaps this is another opportunity for him to do so.
The rule of thumb is that a goalie should be hovering around a 0.915 SV percentage. Lehner has achieved this while Fleury has not.
