Rumor: Ottawa putting together blockbuster trade package
The Ottawa Senators are not going to be shy at this year's draft, and it's been widely speculated the team is willing to move their #3 and #5 overall picks for the #1 overall pick. The team would of course, then draft Alexis Lafreniere. What else they may have to include in the deal is what we will all have to wait and see about.
Once the play-in round is completed and the 2nd lottery takes place, look for talks to begin between the team who lands #1 and the Senators. Sens' ownership has been pushing for this rebuild for years, and having a blue chip prospect like Lafreniere to build around is their top priority. It's believed the Senators not only are willing to include the #3 and #5 picks, but also one of their four 2nd-round-picks in this year's draft.
If the team who ends up with #1 happens to be a surprise, and is what we all would consider a good team, it's expected they would prefer another NHL-ready roster player over an additional pick. Names like Anthony Duclair or Chris Tierney could be included to entice a deal.
