3 potential destinations for free-agent-to-be Alex Pietrangelo

The St Louis Blues are battling for top-seed in the western conference play-ins and none other than captain, Alex Pietrangelo is leading the way. While it's been discussed by the Blues and by 'Pietro' that an extension will certainly be an option, the Blues will need to move some money out if they want to make room to re-sign Pietrangelo.

With the likes of Alex Steen, Tyler Bozak, Jake Allen and Justin Faulk all being considered trade chips, if deals for these veterans fall through, the captain of the Blues may be looking for another team. Here are 3 potential destinations for the future Norris trophy winner:

Colorado Avalanche: The interesting part of this move would be, it may not necessarily be a long-term deal. There's been some talk around the league that because of the flat salary cap, there could be a lot more shorter extensions on the horizon. Pietrangelo would fit in like a glove with the Avs and would be a perfect mentor for Cale Makar. The Avs have the money and the roster to appeal to someone in their prime who is looking to win another Cup.

Boston Bruins: If Torey Krug is actually done in Boston, 'Pietro' could be the perfect replacement. The Bruins somehow have almost $17 million in cap space with their core signed for a couple more seasons. The Bruins get a ton of love on the ice, but their management team deserves a ton of credit for their books. Pietrangelo and Charlie McAvoy on your right side for the next 5 years would win you a lot of hockey games.

Toronto Maple Leafs:
Of course, the Leafs. The King City, Ontario native has a ton of family close to Toronto and there's believed to be some mutual interest from both sides. The Leafs only have $5 million in cap space to work with, but are never shy to make a deal if need be. GM, Kyle Dubas is a huge fan of Pietrangelo and this means even someone like William Nylander could be moved to make room. The Leafs are desperate as any team in the league for production from their right-side of defense and this would be a match made in hockey heaven.

Honorable mentions include the Florida Panthers, Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars.
