Blackhawks' Corey Crawford close to signing a new deal
Corey Crawford is close to signing a new contract, and it appears he will be taking a home-town discount to stay in Chicago.
Crawford was very candid when asked about his feelings towards life as a Blackhawk, and he also feels the team could put the pieces in place to take one more run at a Stanley Cup. Crawford and his teammates surprised a lot of people when they beat out the Oilers in their play-in series, and given the veteran leadership on their team and the insertion of talented youngsters, with steady goaltending the team could make some noise next year.
Crawford thinks he can be that for the Blackhawks, and is likely to sign a one-year deal around $3.5 million to stay. Crawford turns 36 in December, and was making $6 million on his last deal which has now expired. In 9 playoff games this year, he carried a 3.31 GAA. Chicago will need to determine if that's good enough to win.

He's leaning towards a "short term" deal, given his age and health history.
And being the clear #1 goalie will be a higher priority than salary.

"We still have a lot of great pieces on this team. To win another Stanley Cup in Chicago would be unbelievable. That’s the No. 1 goal, to win one more championship.”
