"King" Henrik Lundqvist's Reign In New York Is Over
The New York Rangers have been eliminated from the playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes. Longtime goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist played 129 consecutive post-season games for the organization before taking a back seat to Igor Shestyorkin in game 3. His future as a New York Ranger is now in question.
Lunqvist is the only goaltender in NHL history to record 30+ wins 11 times in their first 12 seasons. Before winning the Vezina Trophy in 2012, he was nominated in his first three seasons in the league. He has been the backbone of the Rangers organization for a number of years, but it seems that the seem is looking to the future with Igor Shestyorkin.
"He wants to win more than anyone. He deserved better from us." - Chris KreiderThis is what Lundqvist had to say just before the playoffs began.
"I'm not blind. They're thinking ahead. There are many pieces that go into building a team right now, but also for the future. Obviously it is disappointing to not play as much as you want. That's where the disappointment is. It's more... not on them (the Rangers), but more that it became as it became."
Have to wonder if Henrik Lundqvist has dressed for his last game with NYR.— John Shannon (@JShannonhl) August 5, 2020
