LA Kings shopping Jonathan Quick, 3 potential destinations
The LA Kings are doing their research on this year's draft class, as the team is picking #2 overall after another disappointing season. They also appear to be scanning the trade market, and according to Jamie 'Noodles' McLennan, the team has likely made goaltender Jonathan Quick available.
With 4 draft picks in the first 2 rounds of this year's draft, and a team that will be built around veterans Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty, Kings GM, Rob Blake is open to moving the 34-year-old Quick and his affordable contract.
The American netminder has two years left on his deal at 3 years left on his deal at $5.8 million, and if he manage to stay healthy, is an absolute steal of a contract compared to what some goalies are making. Even though the Kings struggled in 2019-2020, it wasn't their goaltending that was the issue. Quick finished the year with a 2.79 GAA, the team just frankly, couldn't score.
The market for goaltenders is hot right now across the league. Some big names are out there for the right price and it's expected to be at least 2 big trades involving goaltenders, both in Pittsburgh and with the Rangers. The Leafs and Flames have also been linked to goalie trades.
When it comes to Quick, a team like the Colorado Avalanche may have interest as they have a ton of cap space and could insert the Cup winning veteran. The Chicago Blackhawks would be interested if they aren't able to sign Corey Crawford to a team-friendly contract. However, if you're the Kings, it's extremely unlikely you would move Quick within your conference, so expect more likely destinations to be Buffalo, Carolina or even Toronto.
Jonathan Quick is a big game goalie. He last played in the playoffs two years ago, and once again, the Kings struggled to score goals and all he did was have a 1.55 GAA and a .947 save %.
Rob Blake isn't rushing to make a deal, but heads up, because it will all happen Quick.
