Rumor: Nashville Predators To Buy Out Former 3rd Overall Draft Pick
There are expectations that a 3rd overall pick will turn into an elite player and will go on to have a successful career. However, Kyle Turris has had just a handful of productive seasons and his career has been tumultuous since he was drafted in 2007. He may now be bought out buy the Nashville Predators.
Turris has 4 years left on a 6 year/ $36 million contract. His $6 million cap hit is certainly too high for player who has scored 42, 23, 31 points in the last 3 seasons, respectively. He has been playing on the 4th line for some time, and former coach Peter Laviolette often made him a healthy scratch.
The Predators have tried to find a willing trade partner for Turris, but his contract has prevented other teams from accepting a deal. He turns 31 tomorrow, and he is not getting any younger. If the team were to buy him out, the Predators would pay him $16 million over 8 years. Additionally, this buy out would alleviate $4 million in cap space, which is significant as there will be a flat cap next season.
