Rumor: Pittsburgh sends trade offer to the Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Penguins continue to evaluate their clubs after both teams suffered disappointing losses and didn't make the playoffs. The Penguins dealt with injuries all regular season, and meanwhile, the Jets were hammered with injuries as the restart began. The two teams have held conversations since they were eliminated and we may see something come down the pipe here in the coming weeks.

The rumored deal is to involve the Pens sending defenseman Jack Johnson and forward Nick Bjugstad, with the Jets sending forward Mathieu Perreault the other way. 

The Jets are ultra thin on defense and a physical presence like Johnson is something head coach, Paul Maurice would love at his fingertips. Bjugstad is capable of playing center and due to injury to Bryan Little, he could fill the 2nd line C spot next season. 

For the Pens, Perreault is versatile, and with only one year left on his deal at just over $4 million, this gives the Pens some more financial flexibility which GM, Jim Rutherford is trying very hard to obtain. The deal would save the Pens over $3 million for the next 3 seasons.

It won't be long before Rutherford pulls the trigger in Pittsburgh and this deal could kick-start the roster changes.
