Rumor: Robin Lehner to sign with the Edmonton Oilers
According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun he sees a possibility of the Edmonton Oilers signing free-agent-to-be, goaltender Robin Lehner. The Swedish tender is slated as a 'true rental' for the Vegas Golden Knights, where he has been nothing short of fantastic, currently sitting with an 8-1 record.
VGK will be strapped for cash next season and won't have near the money to even low-ball Lehner into staying. If Vegas can somehow find a suitor for Marc-Andre Fleury, there's potential Lehner finds his long-term home in Vegas. However, that doesn't appear a possibility at this point, and signs are pointing to Edmonton who is looking to upgrade the position.
The Oilers are a team on the brink of going deeper into the playoffs, but in order for dreams to become reality, McDavid and Leon are going to need someone who can mix in a save. Mike Smith just wasn't the answer.
Keep an eye on the Oilers as the team is ready and willing to make moves and are currently in discussions with several teams regarding trades. Robin Lehner would fit perfectly in their crease.
Lehner, Markstrom will set the tone for the UFA goaltending market. My piece looking at the options in net and the possible landing spots: https://t.co/qXioRe3QTv
