Rumor: Toronto Maple Leafs & Detroit Red Wings Talking Trade

The Detroit Red Wings had a historically poor season, tallying just 39 points. Red Wings legend and current General Manager Steve Yzerman is looking to improve his team through the draft and strategic trades. He is now in trade talks with Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas.

The Red Wings are reportedly interested in Alex Kerfoot. The Maple Leafs have a strong top 9 forward core, but this has bumped Kerfoot, a natural center, to the wing. He recently turned 26 and his annual cap hit is just $3.5 million. He is a two-way forward who can play on Detroit's second line.

The Maple Leafs are in a salary cap crunch, therefore it is unlikely they will receive an active player in exchange. They are reportedly willing to trade Kerfoot for a second round draft pick, or two third round draft picks in the upcoming draft.
