Washington Capitals to name new head coach before the draft
The Washington Capitals have been put out in the first round in back-to-back years, and for a championship winning team, that's just not good enough. Todd Reirden is out after two years as head coach and over half a decade with the team. Caps GM, Brian MacLellan now has a decision to make and it appears some big names are in the mix.
It's being reported the team is considering, Gerard Gallant, Bruce Boudreau, Mike Babcock or Peter Laviolette to be the next head coach of the Washington Capitals.
With an aging-core including Alex Ovechkin, who only has one-year left on his contract, the next head coach will need to be someone that's respected in the dressing room and each of the coaches mentioned carries weight.
During the HNIC broadcast on Sunday night, former GM Brian Burke chimed in on the matter:
They are all good coaches, and Todd Reirden is a good coach he will work again, but I think a guy that might be a good fit there is Gerard Gallant," said Burke. "I think he is a good communicator and really demanding, and they will need someone to push that group if they want to win again
The Caps are expected to name a head coach before the Draft.
