Winnipeg Jets Coach Accuses Matthew Tkachuk of Intentionally Injuring Mark Scheifele With Skate Blade
Winnipeg Jets star Mark Scheifele was injured within the first 5 minutes of the opening game of the playoffs. Scheifele did not return to action after the skate blade of Calgary Flames star Matthew Tkachuk sliced into the back of his leg. Winnipeg Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice believes this was done on purpose.
Coach Maurice did not hold back on his comments about Tkachuk and his on-ice actions. This play reminds us of the Matt Cooke - Erik Karlsson event, where Karlsson's achilles heel was sliced by Cooke's skate blade. Tkachuk insists this play was not intentional and he feels bad about what happened. He apologized to Scheifele as he was being carried off the ice, but Jets captain Blake Wheeler took exception and dropped the gloves with Tkachuk.

Mark Scheifele is one of my favorite players to watch in the game... with that said, to suggest that Matthew Tkachuk had “intention” in that hit is absolutely ridiculous! Terrible result, but that’s a careless accusation to make. #NHLJets #NHLFlames @NHLNetwork— Mike Rupp (@Rupper17) August 2, 2020
I know there are some that don’t like Tkachuk’s style of play, but players just do NOT skate around thinking about trying to cut someone with their skates. Not Matt Cooke on Karlsson and not Tkachuk tonight, they just don’t.— Mike Johnson (@mike_p_johnson) August 2, 2020
