Alex Pietrangelo disappointed with the Blues

Alex Pietrangelo thought he would never be in this position, sitting, waiting, wishing for a new contract from the St Louis Blues. If it was up to the Stanley Cup winning captain, the extension would have been signed many months ago. A pandemic hit, the salary cap got flattened, and now things aren't as easy as they should be.

Pietrangelo spoke with the Athletic's Pierre LeBrun and admitted he's disappointed to be in this position:

It’s been a little disappointing that we haven’t been able to get a deal done, obviously. But this is the situation that we’re in, we’re over three weeks away from Oct. 9. There hasn’t been a whole lot of discussion where things are at. We’ll see if things pick up here shortly. There hasn’t been much in terms of progress. But at the same time, I guess anything can happen, over the next couple of weeks when it comes down to crunch time when a free agent starts to look forward knowing Oct. 9 is just a couple of weeks away. I’ve been in the business a long time. I’ve been around. I’ve seen a lot of different things. I think you have to be willing to accept the fact that there may be a change one day. Whether it happens or not, it certainly changes your mindset and makes things a little easier if you ever get to that point.

Like many of us, Pietrangelo is wondering why a deal wasn't signed last July after the Blues won the Cup and Blues management could have locked him up. Add in the fact, the Blues acquired Justin Faulk from Carolina and decided to sign him to a mega-extension moments after the September trade before Faulk even played a game for the Blues.

Put it this way, if 'Pietro' isn't signed by the Blues on October 8th at 11:59pm, a minute later his phone is going to blow up with offers from almost every team in the league.

St Louis, wake up, you're on the clock.
