Done Deal: Pittsburgh and Minnesota complete a trade!
The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Nick Bjugstad to the Minnesota Wild for a conditional 7th-round-pick in 2021. The Penguins also retain 50% of Bjugstad's salary, at just over $2 million.
We first reported on September 4th that Bjugstad was being offered in deals by Pens GM, Jim Rutherford. Information surfaced in at that time that Rutherford was offering two forwards up to try and create salary space, and with this deal, the Pens now have $2.05 in cap space.
This trade is an indication of how tough it's going to be to move money during the 2020 NHL off-season: Pittsburgh may end up with nothing more than the $2.05M in extra cap room (plus $2.625M in actual salary saved) in exchange for Bjugstad. https://t.co/yvsTS0Z3h9

Tough market, as this was nothing but a salary dump, and the Pens still had to retain money. Now a team with financial issues has to pay $2 million to someone who isn't even dressing for their team.
Who's next to go for the Pens? Jared McCann? Matt Murray? Kris Letang?
