Minnesota announces Mikko Koivu will not be back
The Minnesota Wild have announced they will not be bringing back captain, Mikko Koivu. We first reported on this over a month ago after information trickled in to NHLTR regarding Koivu's future and GM, Bill Guerin's intentions. We love when we are ahead of the hockey media curve.

The 37-year-old is expected to either sign a one year deal with a contending team, or sign a deal back in Finland and essentially wrap up his playing days with some old buddies.
It's been a hell of a run for Koivu, and he's a huge part of hockey in Minnesota and that should not be forgotten. 6th overall pick 19 years ago, over 1000 games, over 700 points, a great career which could be coming to an end.
Keep an eye on Pittsburgh, Montreal, and Colorado who will have interest in Koivu's services.
