Patric Hornqvist was blindsided by the trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins
When Patric Hornqvist signed in Pittsburgh and was given a no-move clause he had no intentions of ever leaving the Penguins. Turns out the team had other ideas and the move blindsided and pissed off the veteran winger.
With the move to Florida, the rugged winger gets a chance to play a top-6 role and use his net-front presence to help out a young core. While he's excited to join his new club, Hornqvist had some parting shots for the Pittsburgh Penguins via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
This came up and blindsided me because I had a no-move clause. But then I find out that Pittsburgh didn’t want me and Florida really wants me, and it was an easy choice for me and my family. I’m super excited to go down there and help them win some games. It’s been obviously a little crazy. It was obviously a tough situation for me and my family, when you get blindsided a little bit. When you know you have a no-trade, you don’t think this kind of question is going to come up. When it came up, I took my time to go through every scenario.
Hornqvist had nothing good to say about GM, Jim Rutherford. Are you shocked? Probably not as shocked as he was when he received the phone call asking to be moved.
