Report: Alex Pietrangelo is done in St Louis!
The St Louis Blues have told their captain to head to market, as the team and Alex Pietrangelo have broken off contract extension talks.
This is being reported, after earlier this week, Pietrangelo admitted he was disappointed with how things were playing out with his contract talks. 'Pietro' felt the deal should have been done months ago, and he's admitted this whole process has been quite the wake up call for the Stanley Cup Champion.
The Blues screwed themselves over financially by signing Justin Faulk last year, right after a trade with Carolina. The deal was in place as a back up plan in case Pietrangelo wanted to walk, but that's not exactly the case here. His first priority has always been to sign with the Blues and now with a flat salary cap for the next few years, the Blues are royally screwed.
Even with a trade of Jake Allen to Montreal, the team doesn't have enough money to get a deal done. Their latest offer was $7.7 AAV to Pietrangelo, but it's going to take at least $8 million to seal the deal.
Pietrangelo now becomes the biggest free agent on the market and it's being reported Toronto and Vegas are two teams on his wish list.
Sources say contract talks between the St Louis Blues and Blues captain, Alex Pietrangelo have broken off. The team has advised Pietrangelo to pursue unrestricted free agency.
