Rumor: Blue Jackets to trade for Jesse Puljujarvi
The Columbus Blue Jackets according to a report by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman are trying to make a deal with the Edmonton Oilers to acquire former 2016 4th overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi. The Blue Jackets famously passed on Puljujarvi at #3 in the draft and took Pierre-Luc Dubois. Puljujarvi went into the 2016 draft as the unanimous No.3 prospect, behind only Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine. Friedman was on Oilers Now on Friday and mentioned the Blue Jackets wanting to upgrade their skill at the forward position.
The Oilers two biggest needs are to upgrade their goaltending and to add a third line centre. Columbus has two goalies signed at a good cap hit for the next two years. I'm not sure that Jesse Puljujarvi would be enough to pry away Joonas Korpisalo from the Jackets, Korpisalo is signed at $2.8 million for the next two seasons. Boone Jenner may be Edmonton GM Ken Holland's target. Jenner is signed for two more years at $3.75 million. The Oilers would love to add a gritty two-way player like Jenner on their third line.
Are the Oilers asking enough or asking too much for the former top five pick? Will Puljujarvi light it up on the wing with Dubois in CBJ?
