Rumor: Boston trying hard to acquire OEL from Arizona
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Boston Bruins are interested in acquiring Oliver Ekman Larsson from the Arizona Coyotes.
OEL is 29, with 7 years left on his contract, paying him $8.25. The Coyotes captain has a full no-movement clause, however, he has made it clear he is willing to waive the protection if he's heading to the right situation. A winning culture in Boston seems like the perfect, long overdue fit.
For Boston they are trying to find ways to replace the offense they will lose from the back end when Torey Krug departs. The team will still need to re-sign Zdeno Chara as well, as their left side of their D-core could look vastly different next season.
The deal is likely to include several draft picks, but with Boston sitting without a 1st-rounder in 2020, it will be 2021, and 2022 draft picks in play. Finnish defensive prospect Urho Vaakanainen, a 2017 1st-round-pick is on Arizona's radar, and it's expected any deal for OEL, Vaakanainen would be included.
The Coyotes are heading in one direction, while the Bruins are headed in another. Keep an eye on these two teams are changes are on the way!
