Rumor: Colorado Avalanche To Trade Nikita Zadorov
Nikita Zadorov has developed into a strong defensive defenseman who can play with an edge. At 6'6", 235 lbs, combined with his skill set, 30 other teams are bound to inquire about acquiring his rights. Although he is an unsigned RFA, his rights are restricted which will maintain his trade value.
Zadorov deserves more money and more minutes, but the Colorado Avalanche don't have the cap space or minutes available for him. They surely recognize his value, but players like Cale Makar tend to overshadow their peers.
According to Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic, Zadorov is likely to be traded for high-end prospects, or high-end draft picks for the upcoming draft. The ideal trade partner will be a team who is in immediate need of defensive contribution and has a surplus of draft picks or prospects. The Avalanche are interested in shedding salary against the cap, which is why an established player is unlikely to be dealt in exchange for Zadorov.
