Rumor: Oilers making a push for Max Domi

There has been a lot of drama between Max Domi and the Montreal Canadiens for what seems like the entire year of 2020. It now appears that it is not a matter of if Domi gets moved, it's when. According to reports around the NHL, there are up to as many as 5-6 teams interested in the 25-year old pending RFA. One team trying hard to make a deal is the Edmonton Oilers.

TSN 1260 in Edmonton believes a deal would be centered around the Oilers own pending RFA's in Andreas Athanasiou and defenceman Matt Benning. Domi is expected to get a hefty raise on his $3 million/yr deal. Athanasiou is known for his blazing speed and had a 30 goal season two years ago, Benning is a rugged two-way right shot defenceman at a cheap cap hit. Benning has been one of the Oilers best +/- players for the last few seasons, but has been pushed down the depth chart by emerging defence prospects in Edmonton. The Oilers are tight against the cap and any trade would have to be dollar for dollar.

Would a 2 for 1 offer like this one be enough to convince Montreal GM Marc Bergevin to let Domi go? Can the Habs get a better deal?
