San Jose Sharks Players Caught In Political Gun Scandal

The NHL has a number of ongoing scandals, but none more political than this. Two members of the San Jose Sharks have been named in an investigation after allegedly paying political bribes to a Santa Clara County Sheriff.Brent Burns and Patrick Marleau are the players who have been named in the alleged bribing scheme. In exchange for these bribes, they were given very difficult to obtain concealed weapons permits. It is said to be nearly impossible to be granted a concealed carry permit in Santa Clara County, yet these two players were able to obtain one. Further, neither of them have made official donations to the Sheriff's campaign.

"The grand jury testimony gives the first inside look at the casual way the process worked: Jensen would make house calls to deliver VIPs their gun permit paperwork, at least once to a judge, and in a few instances, to players for the San Jose Sharks. The Starbucks on Coleman Avenue and Taylor Street in San Jose, a 5 minute drive from the sheriff's headquarters, was practically a satellite office for preferred gun permits, although one meeting, involving the alleged deal at the heart of the current indictment, happened on outdoor tables at the Jamba Juice next door - the Starbucks was closed.
