Torey Krug Will Not Take A Team Discount
Torey Krug has likely played his final game with the Boston Bruins. He signed with the team as an undrafted player in 2011 after finishing his college career with Michigan State University. Many Bruins players have taken discounts to make room for more skilled guys, but Krug knows is worth and is not willing to follow suit.
Many will argue that Bruins players have never taken team discounts; instead they become "team friendly" deals as the salary cap increases every year. Perhaps there is merit to this argument. Nonetheless, Krug is not interested in taking a pay cut in order to remain with the Bruins.
Krug is now 29 years old and understands that he is at his peak market value. In fact, retiring at age 34-36 is becoming increasingly common in the NHL and this is likely his last big ticket deal. Regardless of whether you believe this is entirely selfish or just business, he has been nothing but classy through this entire process.Torey Krug said contract talks with the Bruins was “few and far between” during the season and that he was opposed to taking a one year deal: “This is my time in terms of my value at its peak. I need to make the most of it”— Joe Haggerty (@HackswithHaggs) September 3, 2020
Krug closes w/this: "I appreciate all you guys. All the questions over the years, good & bad. Your professionalism. Hopefully I'll see you soon at the rinks, if not I'll see you elsewhere. Everyone here in the chat that I've seen over the yrs, I really appreciate everyone" Classy— Joe Haggerty (@HackswithHaggs) September 3, 2020
