Breaking news out of Philadelphia!
In a somewhat shocking development, Pierre LeBrun of TSN has reported Philadelphia Flyers defenseman, Matt Niskanen has retired.
But if I had to guess, I presume the Flyers would instead suspend him like the Jets did with Byfuglien in order to keep the door open for Niskanen to change his mind next season and maybe re-join the Flyers. As long as Niskanen doesn't file retirement papers https://t.co/pUrXyYK9A3

Niskanen finishes his career with 949 career games played and tallying 356 points. The American-born RHD also played in 140 playoff games, collecting 42 points. Niskanen played his career with Dallas, Pittsburgh, Washington, and Philadelphia.
With almost $6 million coming off their cap, the Flyers now become a potential landing spot for free-agent-to-be, Alex Pietrangelo. The team is also working hard to re-sign RHD Justin Braun.
This is turning into a crazy week in the hockey world, keep tabs on Philly, they could be right in the think of things.

Let’s update this: Matt Niskanen has informed PHI that he will retire. Team asked him to take some time and think about it, he did and stayed with that decision. The Flyers are working on re-signing Justin Braun, do not want to lose two critical members of the PK
