Buffalo Sabres Sign RFA Goaltender
The Buffalo Sabres continue to take care of their own business, as the team announced they have come to terms with restricted free-agent goaltender, Linus Ullmark.
The deal is for one-year and $2.6 million dollars, which is basically double what Ullmark was making last season. A deal gets completed as the two were headed for arbitration, Ullmark was originally asking for $4.1 million, and the team was offering $1.8 million. This is not out of the ordinary for a team to come in super low and a player to come in much higher.
Ullmark is coming off a year where he appeared in 34 games, ending the year with a 2.69 goals against average, and a .915 save percentage. Decent numbers to build off of for this upcoming season, where the Sabres are expected to be a much improved team.
If Ullmark is unable to solidify himself as the starter this season, don't expect to see him back in Buffalo, as the team will be looking to upgrade the position to keep captain, Jack Eichel happy. No pressure, Linus.
Welcome back @Icebeardude! 🙌

He's basically an average, at-expectation goalie. At 26 y.o., we've likely seen his peak. He'd be an ideal backup who can take over starting duties for stretches but BUF might need him to do more than that. pic.twitter.com/DYPGzwQC4H
