Colorado Avalanche Lock Up RFA Defenseman
The Colorado Avalanche and defenseman Devon Toews have agreed on a deal that sees the d-man staying in Colorado long-term. Not bad for a guy who hasn't played a game yet for his new team.
The four-year deal is worth $4.1 million per season and gives GM, Joe Sakic another pillar for his young defense. The future of the team is extremely bright and Sakic is to blame. The types of contracts and stability he's been able to create has been second to none in the league.

Toews, 26, was acquired by the Avs from the New York Islanders in exchange for two 2nd-round picks. The Islanders simply couldn't afford to keep the player and Sakic stepped in and swooped him up for what some are considering a steal.
Toews managed 28 points in 69 games and could easily build off that with more power-play time. In his 22 playoff games last season, he also chipped in with 10 points.

Look for Toews, along with Cale Makar, Samuel Girard, Erik Johnson, Ian Cole, and Ryan Graves to be one of the best d-cores in the league. The Avs are going to be scary good next season.
Book it.
