Henrik Lundqvist Signs With the Capitals

As we reported earlier this week, it was very likely Henrik Lundqvist was going to sign in Washington when the free-agency period began, and sure enough, that's the case. The team has announced a one-year deal for the long time Rangers goaltender.

Lundqvist fell out of favor in New York as the team is going to ride with their young Russian duo in net, and with the departure of Braden Holtby in Washington, a spot opened up behind Capitals starter Ilya Samsonov.

Lundqvist is expected to play roughly 30 games next year, and provides some veteran stability for the much younger Samsonov, which was something the Capitals were targeting with free-agency. The only reason they let Holtby go was because they couldn't afford to meet his contract demands.

'The King' joins OV and the Capitals, they are going to have no fun in Washington!
