Maple Leafs Lock Up RFA Forward

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced they have signed restricted free-agent forward Joey Anderson to a three-year deal worth $2.25 million. The first two years is a two-way deal, the third-year is strictly an NHL one-way.

Anderson played 18 games for the New Jersey Devils last season, collecting 6 points. He was acquired from the Devils for forward Andreas Johnsson, in what was seen as a pure salary dump by the Maple Leafs. Anderson will be giving every chance to contribute to the Leafs, and should see minutes on the team's fourth-line.

The Leafs are in cap hell, so this deal could work out to be a diamond in the rough for general manager, Kyle Dubas. Anderson was a once a third-round pick of the Devils, and is seen as a strong two-way player, who has some second power-play potential. Anderson put up 34 points in 44 AHL games last season.

If you're going to pay your best players a boat load of money, you better find some complimentary talent for cheap. The Maple Leafs look like they found that in Joey Anderson.
