Maple Leafs Showing Interest in Rugged Defenseman
The Toronto Maple Leafs are approaching free-agency looking for two things - finding players that can contribute and are tough to play against. It appears one of their circled names would be RHD MacKenzie Weegar.
The 26-year-old RHD has played the last three seasons with the Florida Panthers and in 2019-2020 finished the year with 18 points in 45 games. The Leafs have huge holes on defense and recently, GM Kyle Dubas has mentioned the team needs to be harder to play against. Weegar gives the Leafs a physical option for their back-end. His ability to play either side is also very appealing for the club.
Weegar has 41 points in 172 career games, all coming with the Panthers. His next game could be as a Maple Leaf.
And, one name that isn’t the biggest — but will is gaining traction — is FLA’s MacKenzie Weegar. Right-shot D who is arbitration eligible. I think there is interest, and he is exactly the type of player TOR would look at. Enjoy the day!
