Max Domi Opens Up About Trade From Montreal

Max Domi was recently traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets after many weeks of speculation surrounding his future in Montreal. It turns out, his experience with his former team wasn't what he expected and he couldn't be more excited to join his new team in Columbus. Domi also leaves Montreal with a few jabs for his old bench boss.

Domi spoke to Sports Illustrated about his time in Montreal, his relationship with his bench boss, and what he's excited about in Columbus after speaking to his close friend Josh Anderson, who he was traded for:

He says he’s a great coach, he’s a coach that says it the way it is. He’ll never play any head games with you. If you’re playing hard, you’re playing good, you’re going to keep going back out there, and if you’re not, you’ll hear about it. To be honest, that’s how I was raised. That’s the way my dad (ex-NHLer Tie Domi) treated it. There were never any games or anything like that. That’s all a player can ask for. I had maybe 12 or 13 guys reach out to me that said you’re going to love playing for Torts. So I’m super excited about it. The coach has his decisions and makes them. Everyone is trying to do what it takes to win and what’s best for the team. That’s just part of the game. It is what it is. The playoff situation was tough. Not a lot of communication there. I wasn’t really sure where I stood and what I had to do to help the team. I wasn’t really told by anyone.

When asked specifically about his relationship with Claude Julien, Domi's response was 'I would rather not get into that'.

So from all accounts, Montreal's head coach was horrible at communicating to Domi, he played some serious head games, and the team didn't even offer Domi an exit interview when the season ended.

Hey Max, how can we sum up your time in Montreal?
