Report: Calgary Flames Looking to Add Right-Handed Defenseman

The Calgary Flames have been busy this off season signing all of the Vancouver Canucks' free agents, and it appears they have run out of options. While that's only partially true, the team is reportedly in the market for another right-handed defenseman, as the team doesn't appear to be interested in bringing back Travis Hamonic.

With limited cap space, the departure of TJ Brodie and their own free agent to sign, it's going to be extremely difficult for Flames general manager, Brad Treliving to add anyone of substance. The team currently sits with only $1 million in cap space and has defenseman Oliver Kylington still unsigned.

While a trade could be the route to go, if Treliving is looking at the bargain bin for RHD's, expect the team to try and convince Sami Vatanen to play for cheap. While that's probably not going to work, perhaps adding a couple years of term and increasing his annual average value could increase the odds.

Cheap veterans like Ron Hainsey, Andy Greene, and Karl Alzner are all left-handed shots who can play the right-side. Another option which appears to be likely at this point is Madison Bowey, who spent last season with the Detroit Red Wings and had 17 points in 53 games.

Look for the Flames to take care of business over the next couple of weeks.
