Report: Maple Leafs Reject Panthers Trade Offer
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers have talked trade over the course of the last few weeks, and it turns out the Panthers were trying to fleece the Leafs.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Maple Leafs called the Panthers regarding rugged defenseman, MacKenzie Weegar and the ask was for Andreas Johnsson and Travis Dermott in return. While Johnsson has since been dealt to the Devils, Dermott remains an unsigned restricted free-agent that's name has been circling the trade market. A straight two-for-one deal would have sent shock waves throughout Leafs Nation.
Quite the ask by the Panthers, considering Weegar had 18 points last season and plays a bottom-four role.
“... but the Toronto Maple Leafs were definitely in (on MacKenzie Weegar), I think Florida Panthers made an ask - were looking at Johnsson (since traded to NJ) and Travis Dermott, and I think #LeafsForever turned that down and then ended up w/ Brodie and Bogosian” #FlaPanthers

Look for these two teams to continue the dialogue as perhaps if the Panthers decrease their demands, the two can agree to terms. We don't know where this will go, but we know where it's been.
