Rumor: Carolina rejects Maple Leafs latest trade offer
The Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs have been rumored to be talking trade this off season. A deal with two eastern conference teams is rare, and in this case, it would be even more unusual as the Leafs offered Freddie Andersen, their starting goalie in the deal.
According to former Hurricane and ex-TSN analyst, Aaron Ward, the Leafs and Hurricanes trade talks did not get far, and here's why:
The Maple Leafs wanted Dougie Hamilton, and this was a non-starter for Carolina
Leafs GM, Kyle Dubas will only trade Andersen if it helps the team upgrade their defense, and this trade would have been a huge kick-start to the changes. Instead, the Leafs are left sitting, waiting and wishing something comes up before the Draft on Tuesday.
The team holds the #15 overall pick and quite frankly, from all accounts, have no interest in selecting a prospect. The team would instead, like to trade the pick to help their back-end.
We shall see what type of offers Dubas can mustard up, one thing we now know, it's going to take more to get Dougie Hamilton away from dancing with his teammates in Carolina.

From @NHL_AaronWard on the Freddie Andersen talk between Leafs/Canes: Leafs wanted Dougie Hamilton, and that was a non-starter.
From @Aportzline: a very good chance CBJ buys out Alex Wennberg if they can't move him.
