Rumor: Ottawa Senators closing in on big trade!
According to Mike Stephens of Yahoo Sports, the Ottawa Senators will be trading away their third first-round pick, selection #28.
The NHL Analyst went on to mention with seven draft picks in the first two-rounds, the team will be as active as anyone leading up to their picks. Ottawa also has $43 million in cap space and a few core pieces to build around, so they will also be active in the free-agent market.
Stephens went on to mention the team's focus could be on goaltending with a trade, where perhaps they move down into another second-round position and pick up a starting goaltender in the process.
With veterans Craig Anderson, Bobby Ryan and Mark Borowiecki all leaving the team, the Senators are expected to look much different when next season starts. It's now Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk's team to lead and the Senators will also be adding two more top prospects. They own the #3 and #5 overall picks, and are expected to land some blue-chip prospects to add to their mix.
After that, is anyone's guess.
