Steven Stamkos Opens Up About His Gruesome Injury

The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup and they did it mostly without the help of Steven Stamkos. The Lightning's captain was banged up and skating on his own throughout the whole Bubble playoffs. Because of the pain and risk involved, all he could manage was to contribute for a few minutes during game 3 of the Finals. Stamkos went into detail about the grind of getting back and what actually happened during his historic goal in game 3.

Stamkos spoke to Lightning Insider, Erik Erlendsson and spilled all the juicy details:

Right before the goal when I went around Lindell, he kind of stepped up on me and I made that move to the right and my left groin, lower abdominal, just kind of tore...like fully...I knew at that moment, as soon as I went around the defense, I knew something was really, really wrong.

With all that's been circulating regarding Stamkos' future, it's hard to imagine the team trading him. Considering all that he's given for the franchise and the fact Tampa has other options to shed money, it's likely #91 stays put.

For now, what we do know is Steven Stamkos is a warrior and a deserving Stanley Cup champion.
