The Dallas Stars Deliver More Horrible News to Employees
The Dallas Stars are in a terrible financial position and have been losing money like crazy this season. The team's owner has handed over the books to the team's President, and now some employees were given some brutal news...and some for the second time this year.
According to The Athletic's Sean Shapiro, multiple Dallas Stars employees were told recently that they were going to be furloughed for a second time this year.
Shapiro goes on to mention how this year was supposed to be a very profitable year for the team, however the pandemic hit, and the amount of money the team has now lost is scary to think about for ownership. The employees are now feeling the effects...again.
It also doesn't help that Stars owner, Tom Gagliardi, is in the business of hospitality, and the restaurant and hotels businesses are plummeting at the moment. He also owns two other hockey teams, one in the AHL and one in the WHL, which are also not in a good state at the moment.
This year for the Stars started on the NHL's biggest stage with the Winter Classic, and it finished on the biggest stage of the Stanley Cup finals. The only problem was, no ticket sales to generate revenue as the games were of course being played in Edmonton.
The Dallas Stars are really the first team to open up about how much they have lost this year, expect to hear more from other teams in the coming weeks.
