Three Potential Destinations for Alex Galchenyuk

Alex Galchenyuk doesn't turn 27 until next February, he's one game shy of 550. If you count playoffs he's at 581. Interesting to think for someone who's on pace for 1000 career games, he really hasn't 'found a home'.

The unrestricted free agent spent last season between the Minnesota Wild via the Pittsburgh Penguins and finished the year with 24 points in 59 games. With a salary just shy of $5 million, not the type of production a general manager is looking for. Expect his next deal to be for much less, and likely a one-year term. Where, appears to be the trickiest of the questions.

Here's three teams to consider:

New Jersey Devils

The Devils appear to be the hottest team on the rumor mill when it comes to Galchenyuk. A young team with room for a couple 'show-us' contracts, so it certainly makes sense.  The versatile forward appears to be best suited in an offensive role rounding out lines with better players. Galchenyuk would be battling for top-six minutes against newly acquired Andreas Johnsson and Nikita Gusev. May be worth a shot.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks recently released a statement saying the team is going full rebuild mode, adding someone like Galchenyuk for cheap makes sense for the team. It would give the player a rehearsal and it would give the Hawks someone they can move up their lineup if bigger holes are created due to some of Chicago's core being traded out.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres added Eric Staal and Taylor Hall and continue to look for ways to upgrade their secondary scoring, Galchenyuk may be able to help. While his 24 points last year were nothing fancy, with regular playing time he's hit 50 plus points in the past, and Buffalo could be the perfect place for him to hit reset on his career. Some 2nd or 3rd line minutes and some 2nd Power Play time could be the recipe for Galchenyuk to get his career back on track.

New Jersey, Buffalo and Chicago could be potential landing spots for Alex Galchenyuk, who is looking for a chance to play some meaningful minutes and contribute. While the door appears to have closed on going back to the Minnesota Wild, maybe there's a chance one of his old teams takes a flyer on a reunion of sorts...
